An Antique German Handmade Marble Droplet Fragment. This is a fragment of a cane used to produce a rare type of marble known as a Peppermint Swirl. With a cute globule form and a balanced structure, a cool fragment. Fragments of this kind are a rare treat and provide a window in the marble making process of old. C reated from the end of a glass cane during the handmade marble production process, in the German glass factories of the mid to late 19th and early 20th Centuries; these unusual items were not sold with the other marbles, and are now only found as archaeological specimens 'dug up' from the remains of the factories.Their stretched, squashed or half-formed appearance captures the viscous malleability of molten glass; and the cut-off rods of colour that are often present give the impression of flowers or elaborate sea-creatures. Although they are originally 'error' or reject items they have a delightful charm of their own. Some enthusiasts only collect marble fragments such as this. A fascinating historical piece that would make an educative, illustrative addition to an existing handmade collection.
